Hello, Thiotrix. I uploaded one plate, the rest will come in the days or weeks that come. Like the last time I will let you categorize the files. Is it ok? Christian Ferrer (talk) 15:34, 19 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Christian Ferrer, thank you for your valuable uploading project. Yes, I will create the categories at Commons. Kind regards, --Thiotrix (talk) 07:16, 20 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. I will upload the images from some other publications (maybe all if I have the time) from the Allan Hancock Pacific Expeditions that are available with a CC BY license in the UFC website, so let me know if you're potentially interested by other subjects than Algae in those publications. Christian Ferrer (talk) 08:14, 20 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Adolf A. Pascher[edit]

Hi Thiotrix.

I see the author page from Adolf A. Pascher. We have an agreement in species.wikipedia to use the full names in this case Adolf Alois Pascher. So please move Adolf A. Pascher to Adolf Alois Pascher. PeterR (talk) 09:56, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello PeterR, the move is done, and all reference templates and author categories have been corrected. Kind regards, --Thiotrix (talk) 12:32, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I uploaded the plates, depicting Algae, of the publication quoted above, I let you taking care about the categorization of the files, otherwise let me know. Regards, Christian Ferrer (talk) 07:42, 20 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, Christian Ferrer, for uploading these images. The categorization at Commons is done. Kind regards, --Thiotrix (talk) 12:46, 21 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Thiotrix, sorry to disturb you. Can you create a disanbigation page for Falklandiella, it is also an unaccepted genus of annelids, a synonym of Orbiniella Day, 1954, see also {{Hartman, 1967}}? Christian Ferrer (talk) 12:06, 29 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Christian Ferrer, disambiguation is  Done. Kind regards, --Thiotrix (talk) 12:20, 29 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Great! thanks you. Christian Ferrer (talk) 12:40, 29 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Christian Ferrer:if there are two taxa names and only one is valid, then we don't do the disambiguation page. But reserving to the valid taxon name. See eg Zetobora. Otherwise, we will drown into disambiguation pages--Estopedist1 (talk) 10:46, 30 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • 1/ Validity is subjective and can vary within time 2/ someone can legitimely search for a "said" unvalid name 3/ our guideline suggect to create a redirect for unvalid name, and a redirect, that we want that or not, is an entry, see {{Hartman, 1967}}. 4/ I don't like very much the way it is displayed in your exemple. Christian Ferrer (talk) 10:53, 30 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
We avoid disambiguation pages for homonyms, where only one name can be the valid and correct one. Here a redirect is sufficient. But for hemihomonyms like Falklandiella, it is better to create a disambiguation. Currently synonymized names may become accepted again, at least for plants, fungi and alge. --Thiotrix (talk) 10:59, 30 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Name not in IPNI, what used like a IPNI name[edit]

I think it is not correct to use IPNI-style name, if related authorities are not yet in IPNI. See eg Hypnea flexuosa. Correct is: Hypnea flexuosa Brown & Jarman--Estopedist1 (talk) 06:51, 31 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I use the form that is used in all sources: AlgaeBase, WoRMS, and IRMNG. IPNI is not up-to-date with authorities of alge, but will soon create an acronym. Now I could find the full name of A.C. Brown. --Thiotrix (talk) 11:21, 1 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Viele Grüße --ChristianSW (talk) 16:33, 30 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Villiers, Quentin & Vives, 2011[edit]

Thiotrix,

How can Villiers publish new information in 2011, while he passed away in 1983? See Template:Villiers, Quentin & Vives, 2011. PeterR (talk) 11:42, 9 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello PeterR, this is probably a posthumous publication of his research. The book is indeed published in 2011, see here. Kind regards, --Thiotrix (talk) 11:52, 9 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, I noticed this discussion within my watchlist, and I agree with Thiotrix, another exemple is Frederick M. Bayer who passed away in 2007, and who is still stated as to be the author not only of several publications but also of taxa. Christian Ferrer (talk) 12:27, 9 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Grüße[edit]

@Thiotrix:
Hallo Thiotrix,

FYI[edit]

This edit transcluded the category onto fifty mainspace pages. Template categories should be placed in noinclude tags. 𝟙𝟤𝟯𝟺𝐪𝑤𝒆𝓇𝟷𝟮𝟥𝟜𝓺𝔴𝕖𝖗𝟰 (𝗍𝗮𝘭𝙠) 19:05, 9 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Lamiinae[edit]

Should probably have mentioned it to you earlier, since you've edited taxon pages linked to Lamiinae a lot recently, but I left some notes in Talk:Lamiinae for a publication last year that includes some taxonomic acts related to tribe classification in the subfamily. Some of the tribes have been synonymized, and some genera transferred to other tribes. I do not know if these changes have been adopted elsewhere yet, but I thought it might be useful for you to know about just in case. Monster Iestyn (talk) 14:45, 25 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @Monster Iestyn:, thank you for your info. I have to admit, that the tribes of Coleoptera are like a book with seven seals for me. You may readily alter the templates, if you want to follow the most recent research. I am just doing some housekeeping work on Coleoptera for pages with the "unverified" template or for the lots of orphaned species pages where the genus page is still missing. Kind regards, --Thiotrix (talk) 16:23, 25 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I see. Maybe I'll make the changes myself at a later point, in that case. Monster Iestyn (talk) 16:26, 25 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Nardoa [edit]

Hi, I saw that you created this redirect, however it is also a genus of echinoderms, see Nardoa Gray, 1840. It is still unclear to me of what is the best thing to do, can you have a look please? Christian Ferrer (talk) 21:20, 13 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Christian Ferrer, thank you for your notice. I moved my redirect to Nardoa Zanardini and made Nardoa a disambiguation page for the hemihomonyms. Kind regards, --Thiotrix (talk) 10:02, 15 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, very fine, thanks you. Christian Ferrer (talk) 17:12, 15 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Bitte[edit]

@Thiotrix:
Guten Abend Thiotrix,

Orchi (talk) 19:13, 18 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

References[edit]

Hello. I got to your prior discussion through template Chase et al., 2015. I would like to point out that World Checklist of Selected Plant Families, Kew Science Plants of the World online and The Plant List are all from the same stable, as we say in England, that is Kew Gardens and their world-wide collaborators. The Plant List is now 7 years out of date and no longer updated, it is also more or less replaced by Kew Science Plants of the World online. World Checklist of Selected Plant Families is the most authoritative, as it has been through more scrutiny. However, it is also restrictive as it does not post partially completed families that still require additional basic work. Taking Vargasiella only World Checklist of Selected Plant Families is really required, but I am not suggesting than you waste time editing out the other two. I use Catol-Hassler and Tropicos as my two main alternatives. Of course, not all other authorities will follow WCSP, but it is rarer than it appears. However, just have a look at Muscari and Cupressus where we have two knowledgeable editors who beg to differ from Kew and this requires notes on the pages, as well as sometimes two name pages for the same taxon. WS can not take sides when there are two widely held accepted and strong taxonomic opinions. Best greetings, hope this helps and I also hope an English post is OK. Andyboorman (talk) 10:04, 19 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Andyboorman, thank you for your informations. Although I do not understand, why it refers to the prior discussion (template Chase et al., 2015), that was just about the formatting of references in Wikispecies. Personally, I do not use The Plant List since several years, because it is so outdated. Maybe you want to write to User:Orchi? Kind regards, --Thiotrix (talk) 19:01, 19 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Will do. Regards Andyboorman (talk) 19:25, 19 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Marlon Câmara Machado[edit]

Marlon Câmara Machado & Marlon C. Machado both appear in IPNI but: Is it the same author?. Saludos--MILEPRI (talk) 08:09, 22 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe it is the same person, as both are working on Cactaceae. I found info about Marlon Câmara Machado. Marlon C. Machado is on Researchgate, maybe you like to ask him there? Cheers, --Thiotrix (talk) 08:30, 22 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Cerambycidae[edit]

Hi, thanks for clearing up the mess I left behind with my Mariusbot in Cerambycidae. I appreciate this. Mariusm (talk) 09:19, 9 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @Mariusm:, meanwhile I am working on letter J for Carabidae and Cerambycidae. There are still many genera missing for higher letters. And some beetles were grouped under plant genera with identic names. So any help is welcome! Kind regards, --Thiotrix (talk) 10:20, 9 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I concentrate right now on Staphylinidae and my time is limited. I hope to get into this though. Mariusm (talk) 16:03, 9 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Cylindrochytrium incorrect[edit]

Hello, Thiotrix. I again corrected this generic name in accord with its original protologue [1]; the entries in the Index Fungorum are incorrect, and could not be used. Anna Pavlova, IFPNI ME IFPNI Staff (talk) 09:36, 11 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I see, then we should cite the species fungorum link. I corrected the pages. (usually we add new discussion themes at the bottom of the discussion page). --Thiotrix (talk) 09:51, 11 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for expanding and sourcing this. Why did you remove {{Authority control}}? —Justin (koavf)TCM 18:35, 13 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I think there was a consensus for using {{Authority control}} on author pages only. But now I cannot find the page where this was discussed. Kind regards, --Thiotrix (talk) 18:48, 13 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Me neither. Regardless, the fact is that for the past few months the {{Authority control}} template has started to slowly but surely slip in to more and more non-author pages as well. However this is perhaps to be expected. For example, the template's documentation for the equivalent template at Wikipedia states that "this metadata template links Wikipedia articles to various library (and other) catalogue systems, for biographies and other topics", without mentioning that it's use is restricted to any specific type of page (or namespace). A quick check on how the template is used on a few other language versions of Wikipedia renders the same result. The Swedish and French versions are pretty much identical to the English (at least in this regard) while the German version adds extra (and mandatory) parameters to specify for when it regards a person, corporation or other organisation, event or a congress, a special field of work, a geographical area, or for a technical term. As far as I can tell the MetaWiki version is the only that is a bit more specific, claiming that "At the moment, it is used almost exclusively in biographical pages (categories and creator templates) and pages related to GLAM institutions (Categories and institution templates)." –Tommy Kronkvist (talk), 21:48, 13 September 2021 (UTC).[reply]
It seems like it has value for species, authors, and collections. I'm in favor of its broad use. —Justin (koavf)TCM 22:02, 18 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hello I noticed this discussion as Thiotrix talk page is in my watchlist. If this template is intended to be used in taxon pages too, you may want to know that we can very likely add more values instead of only "Microsoft Academic ID" by modifying the relevant module. E.g. the Wikidata item Q2336953 has currently 9 external identifiers, so theoretically we can add arbitrary one or more of those values. If needed I think I may be able to do such a thing. Regards, Christian Ferrer (talk) 10:59, 19 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Names in synonymy[edit]

I do like the way you have handled Dysphania (Amaranthaceae). Do you think it is worth taking this to the Pump? Best regards Andyboorman (talk) 08:04, 14 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Andyboorman, the names in synonymy are an optional part in Wikispecies taxon pages. I consider them helpful for taxonomic work to achieve full synonymies. But if those lists get too long and clutter the page, I would propose a collapsible format (like the distribution data). Maybe this needs a wider discussion. --Thiotrix (talk) 08:33, 14 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Baranov[edit]

How we will see unregistered users[edit]

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

Confusion about "Wolfgang Ludwig"[edit]

Hello Thiotrix, in April 2019 you added some info to the Wikispecies page about Wolfgang Ludwig, a German microbiologist. I think there are at least two biologists with this name. As far as I know, the microbiologist for whom the page had been created has nothing to do with the botanist of the same name who lived 1923 to 2013. The IPNI standard form is for the botanist WL. The name which is linked under "1 taxon names authored by Wolfgang Ludwig" is a new name by the botanist WL. If my information is correct (see references in German Wikipedia article "Wolfgang Ludwig (Botaniker)", a separate Wikispecies page should be created for the botanist WL, and info relating to him should be removed from the Wikispecies page about the microbiologist WL. Regards Gkasperek (talk) 19:56, 20 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Gkasperek, thank you for this information. You are right, there are several researchers with this name. I will create a disambiguation for the botanist and the microbiologist. Kind regards, --Thiotrix (talk) 20:07, 20 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
