"Revista de la Facultad de Agronomía" ISSNs[edit]

(There are multiple journals with this name which can get confusing)

  • ISSN 1690-6357 Revista de la Facultad de Agronomia UCV [note: this appears only on the ISSN portal as far as I can tell; Google gives no results for it at all!]

Journals with similar names:

  • ISSN 0370-3649 Revista de la Facultad de Agronomía y Veterinaria (Universidad de Buenos Aires)

Eumolpinae (and related)[edit]

Nomenclature:

  • Scelodonta should be Heteraspis, by priority (however, Australia Faunal Directory still uses the name "Scelodonta")
  • Lypesthes (= Fidia Motschulsky) and Fidia Baly:
    • ICZN case to conserve Fidia Baly and Lypesthes was rejected
    • Lypesthes is a junior synonym of Fidia Motschulsky
    • Fidia Baly is a junior homonym of Fidia Motschulsky, but no new name has been given for former yet
    • Fidia on Wikispecies is currently written for Fidia Baly

Tribe classification:

  • According to Bouchard et al. (2011):
    • Bromiini, Eumolpini, Euryopini, Typophorini
    • [Minor tribes]: Caryonodini, Cubispini, Habrophorini, Hemydacnini, Megascelidini, Merodini, Pygomolpini, Rosiroiini
    • incertae sedis (including Eupalini)
  • According to Seeno & Wilcox (1982) (or at least this page, which is probably based on it):
    • Adoxini (with informal "sections" or "subtribes": Bromiites, Leprotites, Myochroites, Nerissites, Pseudocolaspites, Scelodontites, Tomyrites (= Ebooina), Trichochryseites)
    • Colasposomini (with informal "sections" or "subtribes": Colasposomites, Euryopites, Prasoideites)
    • Eumolpini (with informal "sections" or "subtribes": Corynodites, Edusites, Endocephalites, Eumolpina, Iphimeites)
    • Nodinini (with informal "sections" or "subtribes": Callisinites, Metachromites, Nodostomini, Pagriites, Typophorites, Nodinini incertae sedis)
    • [Minor tribes]: Caryonodini, Cubispini, Habrophorini, Hemydacnini, Megascelidini (formerly subfamily), Merodini, Pygomolpini, Rosiroiini
    • incertae sedis
  • According to Bechyné (1953): [1]
    • Colaspini, Leprotini, Metachromini, Eumolpini, Cynoini, Edusellini, Myochroini, Merodini, Typophorini, Endocephalini, Pygomolpini
  • According to Chapuis (1874) (as tribe "Eumolpides"): [2]
    • Iphiméites, Colaspites, Chalcophanites, Spilopyrites, Nodostomites, Callistinites, Tomyrites, Scelodontites, Leprotites, Hétéraspites, Pseudocolaspites, Métachromites, Eumolpites, Euryopites, Bromiites, Edusites, Myochroïtes, Mérodites, Typophorites, Corynodites, Endocéphalites
  • Sometimes sections of tribes are treated as tribes themselves (e.g. Scelodontini, Metachromini): should they be put in their "proper" tribes following Bouchard et al. (2011)? I have made these tribes conform to Bouchard et al. (2011) now!
  • Should the tribe Adoxini be called "Bromiini" instead? (see Bouchard et al. (2011))
  • Recent U.S. publications and websites (e.g., BugGuide, ITIS) seem to place genera of "Myochroites" into Eumolpini (?)
  • Synetinae and Synetini are the same taxon, but at two different ranks... which name should be used?
    • if in Eumolpinae → tribe rank → Synetini
    • if not in Eumolpinae → subfamily rank → Synetinae
    • Bouchard et al. (2011) and Catalogue of Palaearctic Coleoptera use Synetinae, but ITIS uses Synetini
    (I went for Synetinae)
  • Which tribe does Megascelis belong in: Eumolpini or Megascelidini? (I went for Megascelidini)

Other:

  • Sometimes Pseudaoria and Osnaparis are treated as subgenera of Aoria (e.g. in Medvedev's 2012 revision of Aoria), but sometimes treated as full genera (e.g. in Catalogue of Palaearctic Coleoptera): which system should be used?
  • Which year was Gistel's Handbuch der Naturgeschichte first published: 1847 or 1850? Most people seem to go for 1850, but sometimes 1847 is cited as the year apparently. (This would affect at least all Eumolpinae genera renamed by Gistel in his 1848 Naturgeschichte des Thierreichs, since part of Naturgeschichte's page 123 is identical to Handbuch's page 404)
The above Gistel 1847/1850 problem has been basically sorted out by {{Bezděk, 2020a}}. The only trouble is, it throws in a bit of confusion regarding Lycaste: Lycaste (as Gistel, 1848 rather than Gistel 1837) is actually a replacement name for Chalcophana as it turns out, yet it has also been treated as a separate valid genus with two species by R. Wills Flowers in 2003!

Other[edit]

  • BPBM and BMHU seem to be acronyms for the same repository
  • Was Arnold S. Menke really born in 1918?? If he's still alive that'd make him 101 or 102, and somehow I'm not convinced he's this age since he co-chaired an event just last year! Maybe I underestimate the activeness of centenarian entomologists though? (Alternatively maybe there was a mixup) Circeus figured out he was actually born in the 1930s
  • When did Donald M. Weisman actually die? According to the English Wikipedia he died in 2016 (citing a page on Legacy.com). However, according to {{Staines & Weisman, 2001}} and {{Staines & Weisman, 2001a}} however, he was supposedly already deceased by 2001 (no date given as to his departure). At least by {{Riley, Weisman & Quinn, 2019}} I can assume he definitely was dead (unless there is evidence to the contrary!?!?).
