If you have named a taxon, then it is likely that there is (or will be) a Wikispecies page about you, about that taxon, and other pages about your published papers. You can see examples in Category:Taxon authorities and Category:Reference templates. You are welcome to make updates or corrections to pages about you, but please avoid self-aggrandisement. If in doubt, ask on the Village Pump.

We hope you will make use of Wikispecies, and even stay and help us to build it. You can get started with the Explore Wikispecies links on our main page.

Wikimedia Foundation policy

On 9 April 2009, the Wikimedia Foundation's Board of Trustees passed a resolution regarding Wikimedia's handling of material in biographies of living people (BLPs). It noted that there are problems with some BLPs being overly promotional in tone; or being vandalized, and containing errors and smears. The Foundation urges that special attention be paid to neutrality and verifiability regarding living people; that human dignity and personal privacy be taken into account, especially in articles of ephemeral or marginal interest; and that anyone who has a complaint about how they are described on the project's websites be treated with patience, kindness, and respect.

You may raise such concerns on the Village Pump, on the Administrators' Noticeboard, or on the talk page of the editor concerned. If you are not satisfied with the response of editors and admins to a concern about biographical material about living persons, you can contact the Wikimedia Foundation directly.

Identifiers

We like to have a record of unique identifiers that disambiguate you from other people with the same name. These include, (but are not limited to) VIAF, ISNI, ORCID, ResearcherID, Scopus, and Google Scholar. You may add them to Wikidata, or, again, drop a note on the Village Pump.

In particular, you may register for an ORCID iD; see ORCID in Wikipedia for details.

Editori di Wikispecies

If you edit Wikispecies, or one of its sister projects, like Wikipedia or Wikidata, then we suggest that you add your ORCID iD to your user page on each, by following our guidance for Wikimedians.

Wikidata

If there is a page about you on Wikispecies, there should also be an item about you in Wikidata, our sister project, which contains statements that can be read by computers, as linked-, open-, data.

Photograph

We would like to display a photo of you. You should only upload pictures for which you hold the copyright (usually because you took them). If a family member, colleague or friend took a suitable picture, they can upload it. See our guide to uploading pictures of yourself.

Your spoken voice

You can submit a recording (or several, one in each language that you speak) of your spoken voice, so that people know what you sound like and how you pronounce your name. For details, see the project page.

A Wikipedia article about you

There are over 300 Wikipedias, in different languages. The "notability" criteria for inclusion (having an article about you) are generally much stricter than on Wikispecies; please do not create a Wikipedia article about yourself. If there is an article about you, in one or more Wikipedia project, you should be very careful to adhere to the local policy before editing it.
