Type horizon

Hello, is it possible to add "Type horizon" in the section Taxon pages, because it is often quoted in that way in papers about paleontology. If yes please also add the French version "Horizon type".

Also add the variant "Type horizon and locality" (French: Horizon et localité types)

New Sardinian entries

Hello, these are the translations for the missing entries:

Type host

Hello, I came across the page Pterophilus sudanensis where "Type host" has been localized, so maybe it could be added.

Thanks, Korg (talk) 21:01, 3 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Good find. –Tommy Kronkvist (talk), 23:11, 3 September 2023 (UTC).[reply]

CS female and male

Hello, the proper terms would be:

oh and MediaWiki:AndMediaWiki:And/cs : "a" (somehow doesn't show correctly in the table)

Thanks! GeXeS (talk) 21:32, 30 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

 Done Děkuji. —Justin (koavf)TCM 22:21, 30 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@GeXeS: What did you mean about MediaWiki:And/cs? Have you seen it used somewhere?
It is used in several special pages, by the Scribunto extension and possibly by other tools.
For example, see Special:Version?uselang=cs, at the end of the first paragraph: "(...) dalšía překladatelé na translatewiki.net."
Compare with Special:Version?uselang=cs on Commons: "(...) další a překladatelé na translatewiki.net."
The names of the system messages used on a page can be displayed using the special language code "qqx". Example with Special:Log/rights: Special:Log/rights?uselang=qqx; "(and)" corresponds to MediaWiki:And. See Special:Log/rights?uselang=en and Special:Log/rights?uselang=cs. Hello, I just noticed at Localization/cs that it looked untranslated in the table. It's fixed now, thanks, Justin. GeXeS (talk) 10:47, 1 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I see, thank you. It looked untranslated, although MediaWiki:And/cs already contained the default translation (as in mw:MediaWiki:And/cs). It was not displayed, because of the parser function in Wikispecies:Localization/row, introduced here: {{#ifexist:MediaWiki:{{{1}}}/{{PAGELANGUAGE}}|{{MediaWiki:{{{1}}}/{{PAGELANGUAGE}}}}|{{{1}}}}}. Maybe the value {{{1}}} at the end should be replaced with {{int:{{{1}}}}}. Korg (talk) 13:46, 1 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
And/cs and And/de deleted. —Justin (koavf)TCM 21:24, 17 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! The Czech and German translations for "and" use the default system messages MediaWiki:And/cs and MediaWiki:And/de. They are still properly displayed thanks to this edit. Korg (talk) 07:45, 18 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
This has changed, see Wikispecies talk:Localization/row#Afrikaans (af) and Macedonian (mk), and proposed changes. Korg (talk) 10:13, 24 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

"Temporarily switch your preferred language" no longer useful

The following section in the first part of the page seems no longer useful, since this change.

You can temporarily switch your preferred language to:

Clicking on a link changes the interface language, but not the language of the page content. I'd suggest removing this section. Korg (talk) 11:22, 24 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, and will be happy to make the changes soon. In the meantime, perhaps any of the other translation administrators have some input? –Tommy Kronkvist (talk), 01:37, 25 October 2023 (UTC).[reply]
I trust what Korg is saying. I'm not super invested in it and it was just a quirky experiment anyway. If users want to see things written in Bengali or Macedonian, I'm sure they can figure it out. —Justin (koavf)TCM 02:00, 25 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If we want to help reader to change the interface to a language they want, we can find a different way to do it, without add those 4-5 lines in the top of localization page. - yona b (talk) 17:15, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Other new Sardinian entries

Hi, these are the translations for the missing entries:

Taxon pages:
Commonly used conjunctions etc.:

Publication pages:
Generic interface items:

L2212 (talk) 19:33, 30 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

yellow tickY Half done. Hello L2212. I've now added all of the above entries, except for "See page" → "Paràmetru" (Italian: Vedere pagina) which I believe is an error (?) and "Issues" → "Problemas" which is a misunderstanding. In this instance the word "Issues" refers to "single editions of a newspaper or periodical publication", rather than to a "problem" of any kind. The Italian translation would be edizione, pubblicazione or fascicolo, but unfortunately I don't know the Sardinian word for it. Please add the correct Sardinian translations of "See page" and "Issues", and I will add them promptly. :-) Best regards, Tommy Kronkvist (talk), 12:05, 31 October 2023 (UTC).[reply]
Hi Tommy Kronkvist. Yes, "Paràmetru" was an error I made while copying and pasting the text. I corrected it, thank you very much! When it comes to "Issues" I think in this case "Nùmeros" would probably be the best translation, then. In general something like "I've read the last three issues of Nature" in Sardinian would be translated to "Apo lèghidu sos ùrtimos tres nùmeros de Nature" (and "Ho letto gli ultimi tre numeri di Nature" in Italian, so maybe "Numeri" could be used for that language too). It's also the term used in sc.wiki's "Tzita publicatzione" ("Cite publication") template.--L2212 (talk) 21:19, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
