Welcome to Wikispecies!
Hello, and welcome to Wikispecies! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages you might like to see:
- Help:Contents provides a good introduction to editing Wikispecies.
- Templates are there to help you to follow our syntax and formatting standards.
- Have a look at Done and to do.
If you have named a taxon, then it is likely that there is (or will be) a Wikispecies page about you, and other pages about your published papers. Please see our advice and guidance for taxon authors.
If you have useful images to contribute to Wikispecies, please upload them at Wikimedia Commons. This is also true for video or audio files containing bird songs, whale vocalization, etc.
Please sign your comments on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your username (if you're logged in) and the date. Please also read the Wikispecies policy What Wikispecies is not. If you need help, ask me on my talk page, or in the Village Pump. Again, welcome!
- Your taxon pages look like very good start. Next you should include reference citation for original descriptions. See References. Original references are highly important. Neferkheperre (talk) 02:34, 25 January 2016 (UTC)
Bouvardia juarezana
[edit]Wlodzimierz. I thought you were an other one who was blocked. We have decided not to use space as you have done by Bouvardia juarezana and make an author template. See Cosmopterix meyi as an exemple. My English is not so good, sorry. PeterR (talk) 13:42, 17 May 2016 (UTC)
- Yes, I've seen how you did the author templates. I am used (from other projects) to not using lots of templates, if they are only to be used on few pages. This is why I was not using them. And I think they can easily be introduced by bot later on.–Wlodzimierz, 14:28, 17 May 2016 (UTC)
- I don't agree with your argumentation, but what about using spage? PeterR (talk) 14:41, 17 May 2016 (UTC)
- I just stated the wikimedia-wide idea behind templates (A template is a page created to be included in other pages. Templates usually contain repetitive material that might need to show up on any number of articles or pages. They are commonly used for boilerplate messages, standard warnings or notices, infoboxes, navigational boxes, and similar purposes). They are commonly considered superfluous if not used on many pages, so I thought the same situation is here at Wikispecies. But I will create a few templates on authors, of course. On the other hand, I was not aware of the village pump talk about Spage template, and I don't think any new user will be as it is archived, and Spage seemed easy enough to use. Those talk & decision were made almost two months ago and then archived, without giving the instructions to a bot (AWB?) to go through pages and clean the Spage and change it into text proposed by Tommy Kronkvist. Once the bot start its work, and deletes the template, all of my pages with Spage will be uniformly changed into that proposed alternative. This is why I can't see any problem with using this, once-to-be-replaced, template Spage. Cheers, --Wlodzimierz, 15:18, 17 May 2016 (UTC)
- @Tommy Kronkvist, we had decided not to use Space for (BASEPAGENAME and Name). Have you gave instructions to a bot to change Space? PeterR (talk) 15:25, 17 May 2016 (UTC)

Hello PeterR and Wlodzimierz. I agree that the template {{Spage}}
should be deleted – it should have been done a long time ago. To answer Peter's question: no, I haven't yet had the time to register as an AWB user, nor read up on the details regarding how it works. However, I'm confident that @Dan Koehl: can help us with this issue, and I'll be happy to help out with AWB work in the future. All the best, –Tommy Kronkvist (talk), 17:20, 17 May 2016 (UTC).
- See the new section of the pump concerning template
{{Spage}}
. Other than this thanks for your edits @Wlodzimierz: Andyboorman (talk) 18:24, 17 May 2016 (UTC)
I will look into this ASAP, Dan Koehl (talk) 20:13, 17 May 2016 (UTC)
- Havnt forgot this issue @PeterR, Wlodzimierz, and Tommy Kronkvist:, but just want to make sure, has this gone through all stages of discussions, and is there a consensus for the change? Should we discuss it at Village pump? Dan Koehl (talk) 22:58, 28 May 2016 (UTC)
BASEPAGENAME
[edit]Hello Wlodzimierz. Please note that as the result of a discussion and poll about the References format, we have decided to never manually add the BASEPAGENAME magic word to Wikispecies pages. It should only be used by automated bots and server functions. Instead, please use the actual page names.
–Best regards, Tommy Kronkvist (talk), 12:24, 2 December 2019 (UTC).
- Hi, Tommy Kronkvist! Thanks for the message. However, I didn't quite find any talk or agreement on not using the BASENAME magic word manually in the link that you sent me? Was there a problem with automatical parsing of the pages, or something else? In all the species and subgenera pages that I recently created I used it in order to have the same format of page as for already existing pages in the genus. I will correct them afterwards, and stop using BASEPAGENAME from now on. Thanks again, --Wlodzimierz, 12:36, 2 December 2019 (UTC) (The edit was moved here from User talk:Tommy Kronkvist#Vernacular names, since it is easier to follow a discussion between several parties if it is kept on the same page.)
- My fault – sorry for that. The link I gave you is a direct link to the poll only. The discussions started on the same page but much earlier. You will find the start of the discussion here:
Wikispecies:Village Pump/Archive 33#Reference Format(followed by the poll further down on the same page). It should be noted that this is only the latest community talks about the reference format: it's all been discussed a lot before that too, but those discussions and buried waaay deep in the archives by now... :-) Regards, Tommy Kronkvist (talk), 12:57, 2 December 2019 (UTC).- Oh my... I obviously have far to much on my mind right know. The discussion and poll can be found here: Wikispecies:Village Pump/Archive 41#Poll reg subst:ing BASEPAGENAME and not via the above links. I shouldn't edit Wikispecies while also renovating my house, fighting vandalism at Wikivoyage, reading my e-mail and having lunch at the same time... I'm sorry for any inconvenience, but now it should be the correct link. –Tommy Kronkvist (talk), 13:11, 2 December 2019 (UTC).

I've edited the first of your "BASEPAGENAME articles", like so. If you like to I can take care of the rest as well, so that you can concentrate entirely on creating new pages instead? –Tommy Kronkvist (talk), 14:14, 2 December 2019 (UTC).
- @Tommy Kronkvist: It would be great if you could do that, so I just focus on creating new pages. Thanks a lot! --Wlodzimierz (talk) 14:22, 2 December 2019 (UTC)
- You're welcome. I've got a fair amount of admin- and bureaucrat stuff to take care of as well so it may take a few days, but it will get done soon enough. Happy editing! –Tommy Kronkvist (talk), 14:27, 2 December 2019 (UTC).
- Done. Tommy Kronkvist (talk), 23:27, 5 December 2019 (UTC).
