Redirect of journal page[edit]

Hello PieterJanR! Regarding your recent redirect of ISSN 0034-365X to Reinwardtia. Bogor, Indonesia, is it true that "ISSN 0034-365X" is not the ISSN of the Reinwardtia. Bogor, Indonesia journal? Best regards, Tommy Kronkvist (talk), 18:28, 10 October 2019 (UTC).Reply

No, Reinwardtia has ISSN 0034-365X and ISSN 2337-8824 (online), see this external link to the journal "http://e-journal.biologi.lipi.go.id/index.php/reinwardtia/index".
I see: thanks, your added information is much appreciated! As a result I have "re-redirected" the page so that the main journal page is changed back to ISSN 0034-365X (although Reinwardtia. Bogor, Indonesia redirects to it). I've also edited all corresponding links so that they now points back to the ISSN page. This is in line with the Wikispecies standard naming scheme for publications, as described in the Help:Reference section guideline. The reason why we use ISSN for journal page names rather than the actual journal names is that taxon names always takes precedence. Hence we use ''[[ISSN 0034-365X|Reinwardtia]]'' in order to link to the scientific journal named Reinwardtia, since the "plain name" link is reserved for the plant genus Reinwardtia. Other examples include ISSN 0013-9440 (rather than Eos) and ISSN 0078-5326 (rather than Ophelia). We then often add a linked hat-note on top of the pages in order to further disambiguate: see the Eos and Ophelia pages for examples of that, or the Subbotina genus page where instead we link to an author rather than a scientific journal. Again, this is due to the fact that the main purpose of Wikispecies is to serve as a database of taxa: hence taxon names always takes precedence over the names of scientific works, author names, and pretty much also everything else.
Feel free to ask any questions you may have if you like more information about this or any other site-related matter. I'm always happy to help and will generally answer within a few hours, 24/7 and regardless of time zone. Best regards, Tommy Kronkvist (talk), 07:04, 11 October 2019 (UTC).Reply

Creating links from Wikispecies taxon pages to an existing Wikidata item[edit]

Hello PieterJanR, I see that you have linked many new pages I have created to existing Wikidata items. Can you explain simply how this is done so i can do the same? With the introduction of the taxonbar template I can see how this is quite useful. Kind regards, Nytexcome (talk) 03:47, 12 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

The way I do it is that I open (in a separate tabsheet) Wikidata. Next I use the search field to look if the specific species name already exist. If it does, then I open that item and under the field "Other item" click "edit", create a new item "species" with the value of the species. Next click "add" to update wikidata.
If the item doesn't exist in Wikidata then you have to create a new item, and fill in all the fields and statements, and also the link to wikispecies as described above. PieterJanR (talk) 14:01, 12 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

Autopatroller[edit]

Autopatrolled rights[edit]

Dear PieterJanR, You have been granted autopatrolled user rights, which may be granted to experienced Wikispecies users who have demonstrated an understanding of Wikispecies policies and guidelines. In addition to what registered users can do, autopatrollers can have one's own edits automatically marked as patrolled (autopatrol). The autopatrol user right is intended to reduce the workload of new page patrollers and causes pages created by autopatrolled users to be automatically marked as patrolled. For more information, read Wikispecies:Autopatrollers.

This user has autopatrolled rights on Wikispecies. (verify)

You may as autopatrolled use the autopatrolled user box on your user page. Copy and paste the following code on your user page: {{User Autopatrolled}}

If you have a Meta-Wiki user page, you can put the user box for Meta on your Meta-Wiki user page.

There's always a need of patrolling files edited by unregistered users, and if you think you have a good understanding of Wikispecies policies and guidelines and want to help out with patrolling, you can request patrol rights at Patroller.
