On users that use English Wikipedia[edit]

I recognize I have been trolling on talk, and apologize. I will not engage in this again. Once unblocked, I intend to add sources to the followng: Tarantula, Helmut Jürgen, Jumping Spider, and Wolf Spider. In conclusion, I formally request an unblock. Also, to others, please do not harass me due to this behavior, I won't repeat it. :) GermanGamer77 (talk) 21:06, 6 March 2018 (UTC)

Talk pages[edit]

There is no need to ask, on taxon talk pages, if your edits are OK. Assume they are, if they are not changed or reverted. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 23:23, 8 March 2018 (UTC)

Hold on a minute[edit]

(Moved from Talk:Haloferacaceae.)

I'm pretty sure "familia" should be changed to "family" but I'm not sure. Could I have some help? GermanGamer77 21:09, 7 March 2018 (UTC)

One of the goals for Wikispecies is to be as language independent as possible. The reason is that there is only one Wikispecies. Compare this to the different Wikipedias: there is one English Wikipedia, one German, one Chinese, and so forth. All in all there are a total of 288 active (and 11 inactive) Wikipedias in different languages – but only one Wikispecies. Hence we at least try to keep it language independent, so that users from all corners of the world can benefit from it regardless of their native language. For example we never write "female" or "male" in image captions, but instead use the universal ♀ and ♂ symbols.
As for the Taxonavigation section we always use the Latin vocables, as they are the globally accepted standard within the field of taxonomy. Hence it should always say "Familia", "Ordo" and so forth in Latin, not "Family" or "Order" (nor "Familie" or "Ordnung", for that matter :-) You can read more about this on the Help:General Wikispecies page, where you will also find a fairly complete list with the Latin names of most other taxon ranks. Best regards, Tommy Kronkvist (talk), 01:58, 8 March 2018 (UTC).
I see. So, can I have a guide to making useful contributions? Also, does that mean I have to contribute in Latin? GermanGamer77 18:41, 8 March 2018 (UTC)
A good place to start is the Help:Contents page, including all the sub-pages listed there ("General Wikispecies", "Taxonavigation section", etc.) And no, we more or less only use Latin for the names of taxon ranks in the "Taxonavigation" section of taxon pages. Most other data presented on Wikispecies is fairly language independent, as is. For example take a look at the Theraphosa blondi page. Most of the data there doesn't really involve any "language". It's almost exclusively scientific names of taxa and author names plus names of publications, and those names are what they are, regardless of language. The titles of the cited publications are of course language dependent, but that doesn't matter. We should always refer to the original works, if known, and a title of a book is what it is, regardless of language. As an analogy the scientific name of Homo sapiens is always Homo sapiens, without regards to the reader's mother tongue. The same goes for scientific works: if the original title of a book is "Ein gutes Buch der biologische Nomenklatur" then that's the title we should use, no matter the language. And as for menus, most headlines etc. they are automatically presented in the language chosen in each editor's user preferences. Regards, Tommy Kronkvist (talk), 18:16, 9 March 2018 (UTC).

Warning 2[edit]

Ambox warning yellow.svg Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikispecies. Your edits appeared to be vandalism and have been reverted. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Thank you. Its a hgh number of admins watching whats going here. If cant convince the community, that you have sincere ambitions here, and that you were blocked on other projects due to unvalid reasons, its possible that you may be blocked here as well. Dan Koehl (talk) 11:39, 20 March 2018 (UTC)

Sorry, I made a mistake. Can you let me know what vandalism qualifies as? I don't want to be banned again... GermanGamer77 (talk) 22:18, 15 January 2019 (UTC)

Stop x nuvola with clock.svg You have been blocked from editing for a period of indefinite for not here to contribute, trolling on talk. Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make constructive contributions. If you believe this block is unjustified, you may contest the block by adding the text {{unblock|your reason here}} below, but replace "your reason here" with a reason as to why you believe you should be unblocked.

Dan Koehl (talk) 09:56, 16 January 2019 (UTC)

I'm going to take a break from Wikispecies until I figure out what I did and figure out how to make this right. I apologize. GermanGamer77 (talk) 17:50, 7 March 2019 (UTC) Template:Unblock I understand that I inserted the gibberish, although I wished to insert an image. I will now refrain from doing so to better Wikispecies. Thank you for the block. GermanGamer77 (talk) 21:57, 11 March 2019 (UTC) Also, the unblock request won't show up. May I please have some help? GermanGamer77 (talk) 22:01, 11 March 2019 (UTC)

Sandbox[edit]

Where is my sandbox? I would like to make a page, and need to make a rough draft. GermanGamer77 (talk) 20:12, 11 March 2019 (UTC)

Dear GermanGamer77, if you have constructive intentions, and wish to be unblocked, can you please point me to any recent contributions in another Wikimedia project, where your good intentions are visible, without doubt? Your edits before you got blocked were mostly edits on other users talk pages, resulting in less appreciated energy wasted for those users. If you would get unblocked, is it possible that this time, you read through the edit instructions, and contribute without bothering other users? Dan Koehl (talk) 19:09, 14 March 2019 (UTC)

User sandboxes aren't created automatically in Wikispecies, however if and when your user account is unblocked, you can use this link to create such a sandbox: User:GermanGamer77/Sandbox. –Tommy Kronkvist (talk), 19:55, 26 March 2019 (UTC).
@Tommy Kronkvist: Thanks so much! GermanGamer77 (talk) 21:49, 26 March 2019 (UTC)
