- Holotype: USNM ENT 00117958, ♂.
- Type locality: United States. Oregon. Lake: Lakeview (44 km E; Drake Creek; 42°11'N, 119°59.3'W); 9 Jul 2005, D. and W. N. Mathis.
- Etymology: The species epithet, occidentale, refers to the western distribution of this species in the Nearctic Region.
