Welcome to Wikispecies![edit]

Hello, and welcome to Wikispecies! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages you might like to see:

If you have named a taxon, then it is likely that there is (or will be) a Wikispecies page about you, and other pages about your published papers. Please see our advice and guidance for taxon authors.

If you have useful images to contribute to Wikispecies, please upload them at Wikimedia Commons. This is also true for video or audio files containing bird songs, whale vocalization, etc.

Please sign your comments on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your username (if you're logged in) and the date. Please also read the Wikispecies policy What Wikispecies is not. If you need help, ask me on my talk page, or in the Village Pump. Again, welcome! -- Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 15:06, 19 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Boilerplate welcome above, should you need the links it includes. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 15:07, 19 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Cheers Andy. I already found Wikispecies:Administrators' Noticeboard. --RexxS (talk) 15:21, 19 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

How to request unblocking[edit]

Hello RexxS, and thank's for your message on TheGoodIndian's user talk page. For reference, requesting a user account to be unblocked is done by adding the code string {{unblock|add reason here}} to the user's talk page, replacing "add reason here" with a rational motive as to why they believe they should be unblocked. Normally information about this would be automatically added by the {{Blocked}} template on the respective user talk pages, but unfortunately that template is seldom used. One reason for that may be that the Wikispecies version of the {{Unblock}} template have a history of being vandalised and deleted several times for the past half a decade or so. Hence it's in fairly bad shape and we haven't really gotten around to properly fix it yet (including the templates it transcludes). Also, the vast majority of the currently 1,322 blocked users (not counting unregistered IPs which are never long-term blocked) are frequently being monitored by the admins, and it's perfectly fine to request unblocking without using the {{Unblock}} template. Cheers, Tommy Kronkvist (talk), 18:27, 6 March 2020 (UTC).[reply]

Thanks, Tommy. It looks like TheGoodIndian is now unblocked and is being well treated now. Hopefully they won't feel any the worse for their experience.
Incidentally, I have considerable experience in creating and maintaining both templates and Lua modules, so please feel free to ping me if you ever need any help with those on Wikispecies. Cheers --RexxS (talk) 21:02, 6 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
