Name
[edit]Type species: Trichochrysea mouhoti Baly, 1861, by original designation.
Synonyms
[edit]- Lefevrella Jacobson, 1894: 277 [syn.: Lopatin, 1976]
- Type species: Heteraspis hauseri Weise, 1890 [= Heteraspis occidentalis Weise, 1887], by original designation.
- Heteraspibrachis Pic, 1907: 170 [syn.: Lopatin, 1976]
- Type species: Heteraspibrachis bipubescens Pic, 1907 [= Heteraspis occidentalis Weise, 1887], by monotypy.
- NOTE: Bromius Baly, 1865 and Heteraspis Chapuis, 1874 are often cited as synonyms of Trichochrysea that are also homonyms, but these names are subsequent uses of names first published by Chevrolat, 1836; however, both of Chevrolat's names are available, though mistakenly thought to be unavailable by many authors prior to 1982. Under the ICZN, subsequent uses of available names are themselves unavailable names without their own authorship (except as, e.g., Bromius "sensu Baly" or Heteraspis "sensu Chapuis"), and they cannot enter into homonymy, nor can they have type species. In these two examples, the "type species" proposed differed from those of Chevrolat's original names, but that only means that these subsequent uses were misattributions of Chevrolat's names to other taxa; only if Chevrolat's original names had been unavailable would Baly's or Chapuis' names be available.
