Doesn't fetch best value for IPNI plant ID from Wikidata
[edit]I've found that IPNI occasionally reassigns a taxon to a different ID. When this happens, following a link to the old ID will lead to a page that says "This name #### is suppressed", even if the name is definitely valid. Searching on IPNI for the name will then direct to the new page and ID. For example, the genus Centaurea used to have an IPNI id of 8142-1, but its current id is 330045-2. Apparently IPNI is doing this to align their ids with POWO'S.
Upon discovering instances of these, I've made an effort to amend Wikidata when possible. To do so, I've been giving the old value a deprecated rank with a reason-for-deprecated-rank value of "withdrawn identifier value", then adding the new ID as a new value, and making it preferred rank with a reason-for-preferred-rank value of "currently valid value". See Q156414.
While the Wikipedia version of the Taxonbar template seems to be fetching the updated id, the Wikispecies version is still fetching the old one. Which suggests this template is either not correctly discriminating between preferred and deprecated values, or is caching the value for too long (I made this change a month ago). ~2026-65109-3 (talk) 08:36, 16 April 2026 (UTC)
