Pyrausta subsequalis (Guénée, 1854): 177.

Type locality: "Northern America" (Amérique septentrionale)

Typus: male ♂, 2 female ♀ (types not found per Munroe 1976: 121).

  • Herbula subsequalis Guénée, 1854: 177, pl.8, fig.3.
  • Herbula insequalis Guénée, 1854: 447 (However, superfluous replacement name [junior objective synonym] as Guénée, 1854: proposed in his 'errata' due to alleged homonym with "subsequalis Herr.-Sch.", but unnecessary replacement per Munroe, 1976: 121 [see Note below])
  • Pyrausta subsequalis (Guénée); Munroe, 1976: 121.
  • Pyrausta insequalis (Guénée); Scholtens & Solis, 2015: 20 (as valid senior name citing Munroe 1995. [see Note below]).

Etc. Many other synonyms, etc.

Note on Herbula insequalis: Per website '', says: "Munroe 1976, Moths of America north of Mexico 13.2B: 121, regards Herbula insequalis Guenée, 1854 as an unnecessary replacement name for H. subsequalis Guenée, 1854, since there is no homonymy with Botys subsequalis Herrich-Schäffer. As he is the first revising author, his suggestion to use Pyrausta subsequalis (Guenée) with synonym Herbula insequalis Guenée is followed here." [1].
Specifically Munroe 1976 (p.121) writes: "NOTE-Guenee proposed this as a replacement name for Herbula subsequalis Guenee, because Herrich-Schaffer had previously used the same specific name for a species of Botys. Under the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature this does not constitute homonymy, and the replacement name, not being required, is a junior objective synonym, with the same type-material and type-locality".
