Valid Combination[edit]

  • Plebicula sagratrox Aistleitner, 1986.

  • Polyommatus golgus sagratrox (Aistleitner, 1986).
  • Plebicula golgus sagratrox Aistleitner, 1986.

  • Type locality: Sierra de la Sagra, NE. Granada province, SE. Iberian peninsula (Spain).
  • Distribution [see Gil-T., F. (2013)]: 4 separated and small colonies: Granada province: Sierra de la Sagra, Sierra de Guillimona, Sierra Seca; Jaén province: Sierra de la Cabrilla.
  • Its distribution is the most reduced of all Papilionoidea endemic species of Spain: the total occupied area by the four colonies is 0.82 km².

  • Hostplant: Anthyllis vulneraria microcephala, an endemic plant from NE. Andalusia Region, SE. Spain.
  • Altitude of its biotopes: 1900-2300 m (Note: altitude very different to Polyommatus golgus: 2500–3200 m).

  • Tolman (1994) considers to P. sagratrox as a subspecies of Polyommatus golgus basing on some questionable and unjustified arguments [see discussion in Gil-T. & Ibáñez (2009)].
  • These two taxa (P. golgus and P. sagratrox) show an ecology, morphology and ethology/behaviour very differentiated [see Gil-T (2003) and Gil-T. & Ibáñez (2009)].
