Name

[edit]
  • Omorgus alius Scholtz, 1986
    • Authority for current placement: original
      • undisputed by all subsequent authorities
    • Incorrect original combination: Trox alius
    • Original genus: Omorgus Erichson, 1847
    • Original status: valid species
    • Primary type: holotype and presumably unique
      • Fixation: designated
      • Description: [adult] male
      • Repository: QM
    • Type locality: 'Australia, Western Australia, 3-12 km S. Newman'
    • NOTE: Having described this species (and others) in genus Trox subgenus Omorgus, Scholtz (1986: 1 fn) added as a postscript that 'in a recent paper (Scholtz 1986) the subgenus Omorgus Erichson was elevated to genus. Consequently, all native Australasian species belong to Omorgus'. I therefore consider that the correct original combination is with Omorgus, not Trox.
