- Holotype: ESUW, ♀, 31-I-21-II.1987, I.D. Gauld & D. Janzen.
- Type locality: COSTA RICA: Guanacaste, Santa Rosa Natl. Park 300m, ex. Malaise trap.
- Etymology: The specific name is from the Latin mellosus meaning honey-colored in reference to the honey colored body.
