Type locality: Papua New Guinea, Morobe Prov., Wau, Mt. Kaindi, 1550 m.
Holotype: ZSM, ♂, 07.X.1992, leg. A.Riedel.
Etymology: This epithet is based on the Latin adjective spinosus (spiny) and refers to both the long humeral spines and the armature of the male profemur.
