Type locality: Costa Rica, Cartago, P.N. Barbilla, R.F. Rio Pacuare, Turrialba, Est. Barbilla, 500 m.

Holotype: INBio. female. GS 126,320. 11.2001. Leg. L. Chavarria.

Etymology

The name refers to the external similarity to encausticus; Greek: para - near, related.
