Name
[edit]Diaperis (Fourcroy in) Geoffroy, 1762
Type species: Chrysomela boleti Linnaeus, 1758, by subsequent monotypy (per Müller 1776: 74; see ICZN 1994a, Opinion 1754, cited in Bouchard et al. 2021: 161).
Gender: feminine [Greek (ancient), prefix dia- διά (meaning "through", "divided by" etc) and derivative of the root verb πείρω / πεῖραι (peírō / peîra) "to pierce" or "bore" etc, modified as feminine noun with -ις (-is) suffix, latinized as Di(a)-per-is, roughly translating to "that which pierces/ passes through" which plausibly referred the unique shape of the antennae]
