- Holotype: FIS MeI 6075, lateral imprint of gyne (indicated by the visible boundaries of the scutellum and postnotum of the mesosoma).
- Type locality: Grube Messel, Hesse, Germany. Messel Formation, Middle Eocene, c. 47 Ma (Mertz & Renne 2005).
- Etymology: From the Latin curiosus, funny.
