- Holotype: WAM E82995, ♂.
- Type locality: Western Australia: Porongurups National Park, Devils Slide, site 6, 34º40’31”S, 117º51’05”E, ex Gastrolobium crenulatum [Note: plant species misidentified = G. subcordatum], beat, 15 October 2006, M.L. Moir and J.M. Waldock.
- Etymology: This species is named in honor of Dr David Coates, for his contribution towards the conservation of many threatened Western Australian plant species, and his support of the first author’s work highlighting the potential coextinction of insects on these plants.
