Welcome to Wikispecies!

Hello, and a belated welcome to Wikispecies! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you are enjoying being here. Here are some pages you might not yet have found:

If you have named a taxon, then it is likely that there is (or will be) a Wikispecies page about you, and other pages about your published papers. Please see our advice and guidance for taxon authors.

If you have useful images to contribute to Wikispecies, please upload them at the Wikimedia Commons. This is also true for video or audio files containing bird songs, whale vocalization, etc.

Please sign your comments on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your username (if you're logged in) and the date. If you need help, ask me on my talk page, or in the Village Pump. Again, welcome! Tommy Kronkvist (talk), 22:35, 15 November 2016 (UTC).Reply

Author templates[edit]

Hello Zeete. Thank you for your edits! Here's a note about different author templates.

When you need to use author templates together with wiki links, as you did here, please use the template {{A}} instead of the {{Aut}} template. The latter should only be used for author names without links. The reason for having two different templates (one for linked author names, one for not linked) is that it makes the resulting wiki code shorter and more legible.

In other words:

Please do not use the "non-link" template {{aut}} together with doubled square brackets:
Red XN [[Alexander Wilson|{{aut|A. Wilson}}]]
Instead, use the "linked" {{a}} template which doesn't need doubled square brackets:
Yes {{a|Alexander Wilson|A. Wilson}}

They will both render the same on-screen result, namely A. Wilson, and they will both link to the same page, namely Alexander Wilson.

Please do not hesitate to ask any questions or come forth with any suggestions you might have. Best regards, and happy editing! Tommy Kronkvist (talk), 22:42, 15 November 2016 (UTC).Reply

Etymology on Charadrius wilsonia[edit]

Hello @Zeete:, unlike Wikipedia and the like we do not do etymology on WS reserving the site simply for information about taxonomy and classification. Vernacular names and images are OK, but these are the only exceptions. Thanks and regards Andyboorman (talk) 15:05, 4 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
