Requests[edit]

Hi! Please, if you want to ask someone for adding content to a page, request it on the talk page of the article. Please, do not write it to the page itself (like you did it on Lance Grande). Thank you! -- BanKris (talk) 16:56, 6 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Taxa named by authors[edit]

Hello Lookwood1, and thank you for your edits. Please note that the clickable sums in lists of named taxa on author pages are automatically produced by the {{Taxa authored}} template, which fetch the data from a "Taxa by author" category specific for each author. In the case of Lance Grande that category is named Category:Lance Grande taxa.

Some authors have named several hundreds or in some rare cases even many thousands of different taxa. Because of this Wikispecies have a praxis saying that the taxon names themselves shouldn't be listed on the author pages, since such huge lists can really harm legibility. Hence we insert a "Taxa by author" category on every taxon page instead,(example) so that the named taxa for each specific author can be easily viewed as a list in the respective "Taxa by author" category, without cluttering the actual author's page. In other words we advocate against adding a list of taxon names to author pages, as you did here.

The downside of this praxis is that it can sometimes take some time before all of the actual taxon pages are created, and meanwhile those taxa are of course not yet members of any "Taxa by author" category. That is why the text string "List may be incomplete" is automatically added by the {{Taxa authored}} template, as can be seen on the Lance Grande page. The remedy is simple, albeit time consuming: we simply have to create all of the taxon pages that "belong" to Lance Grande, adding the text string [[Category:Lance Grande taxa]] to the bottom of all of those pages. As of this writing Wikispecies consists of a mere 874,190 content pages so we still have quite a few million taxon pages left to create, but it is possible to reach the goal!
