Welcome to Wikispecies!

Hello, and welcome to Wikispecies! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages you might like to see:

If you have named a taxon, then it is likely that there is (or will be) a Wikispecies page about you, and other pages about your published papers. Please see our advice and guidance for taxon authors.

If you have useful images to contribute to Wikispecies, please upload them at Wikimedia Commons. This is also true for video or audio files containing bird songs, whale vocalization, etc.

Please sign your comments on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your username (if you're logged in) and the date. Please also read the Wikispecies policy What Wikispecies is not. If you need help, ask me on my talk page, or in the Village Pump. Again, welcome!

Lastly a note about inline Wikipedia links: Please note that links to Wikipedia are already added by Wikidata to the left hand side menu on taxon pages, under the "In Wikipedia" subsection: see Tachycineta bicolor for an example. Wikidata acts as a central storage for the structured data of its Wikimedia sister projects including Wikispecies, Wikipedia, Wikivoyage, Wikisource and others, and such links are preferred over the {{Wikipedia}} template for two reasons. First, they are added automatically by the Wikimedia server software to all relevant Wikimedia pages, which is helpful when users cooperate between the different wikis. Secondly they always include links to all language versions of Wikipedia where a page about the particular taxon is currently available, while the inline {{Wikipedia}} tag only links specifically to English Wikipedia. Please also note the most of us 'crats and admins on Wikispecies are a helpful bunch of users, so don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions, ideas, etc. :)
