Charles Montague Cooke, Jr.[edit]

@Tommy Kronkvist: I do not understand why you reverted my edit which added Charles Montague Cooke, Jr. to the DAB page Cooke. He was a taxon authority who is known in the literature as 'Cooke'.

Two of us are working on a project in English Wikipedia, to replace useless links for taxon authorities to surname pages by links to the correct people (or to redlink them, if there is no article in any Wikipedia). When we started, there were about 2,000 of them. We've got that number down to about 700.

When I first came across a Wikipedia article which cited 'Cooke' as authority, my first reaction was to look for Cooke in Wikispecies. After opening all four articles on the Wikispecies DAB page in Wikipedia and reading them (because there was no useful information on that DAB page about dates or specialities), I set about finding the malacologist by another route. He is among the 60-odd people in w:Cooke; but as you can see, he is not listed on that page itself. Once I'd identified him as the likely author, I still needed confirmatory evidence.

The whole affair wasted about 10 or 15 minutes of my time. To my annoyance, I then found that he had a Wikispecies article. I could have solved the problem pretty much at sight if he had been listed on the Wikispecies DAB page. Writing this post has wasted another 10 or 15 minutes. @Narky Blert: Sorry, that was a mistake made in such a haste I didn't even knew about. I must have simply clicked a wrong link without realizing it. My error is now reverted, and I have since also added David Alan Cooke, Theodore Cooke and William Bridge Cooke to the list. As you can see by the page history adding them took eleven minutes of my time, but I guess in the end all is good? Best regards, Tommy Kronkvist (talk), 14:21, 23 March 2019 (UTC).[reply]
@Tommy Kronkvist: No worries, and it's led to an improvement to the page! Yrs, Narky Blert (talk) 16:10, 23 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
