Sections
[edit]Can we justify sections that are unreferenced and mere stubs? I would advise deleting them and just have the genus and species unless there is any utility or strong demand. Andyboorman (talk) 15:54, 31 December 2023 (UTC)
- Sections have now been very much improved. Andyboorman (talk) 16:00, 6 December 2025 (UTC)
Excluded species?
[edit]@Andyboorman: is there any details in the guide on how to handle excluded species on a page? Wolfe and Tanai moved a group of fossil species out of Acer in their review, and deemed another group as nomen dubium. For the moved taxa, like Acer aquilum Chaney, 1920, now Vitis aquila (Chaney) Wolfe & Tanai, 1987, linking the basionym to the current species page. Is listing the nomen dubia and moved taxa here after the notho-species the way to go? Thanks in advance.--Kevmin (talk) 17:46, 10 December 2025 (UTC)
- There are no explicit details concerning excluded species. However a few editors have explored adding a separate section called "Species (or names) in Synonymy" right at the end of the main lists of accepted names. Most of the names appear as green links and redirect to an accepted name. In your example that would be Vitis aquila I have been trying to find an example, but for the life of me have drawn a blank, but will keep digging! Andyboorman (talk) 19:07, 10 December 2025 (UTC)
- @Kevmin: Looks like you may have found an example, see also Disciphania. Franz Xaver no longer edits here, but was exploring ways of creating a complete list of names for a taxon and nobody seemed to object.. Andyboorman (talk) 20:22, 10 December 2025 (UTC)
- Good morning Andy, I knew I has seen a page with something along the lines of what you suggested, but couldn't find it again, and wanted to double check if it was allowed. Your suggested heading title gave me the search terms i needed to check out a group of pages and adapt accordingly, thank you!--Kevmin (talk) 16:35, 11 December 2025 (UTC)
