- Type locality: Disko Bay, West Greenland (69°24'71" N, 53°51'24"W).
- Holotype: clonal culture (strain PDSH1), Scandinavian Culture Collection of Algae and Protozoa (SCCAP/reference number K-1858). fixed sample of strain PDSH1 in glutaraldehyde, Natural History Museum of Denmark C-A-92067.
