Piper pilobracteatum Chaveer. & Sudmoon is a synonym of Piper caninum Blume

Note: Comparison of holotype material of Piper pilobracteatum and materials of P. caninum shows that P. pilobracteatum is conspecific with P. caninum (Suwanphakdee and Chantaranothai, 2008). P. pilobracteatum Chaveer. & Sudmoon is therefore a synonym of P. caninum Blume. According to ICBN rule, P. pilobracteatum Chaveer. & Sudmoon named by Chaveerach et al. (2006) should be abandoned name and P. caninum Blume is a valid name.

'Distribution: Piper caninum is distributed in India, Peninsular Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand (Suwanphakdee et al., 2006). Also, this species is a native pepper in Australia (Spokes, 2007).
