Type locality: Murray Islands, Torres Strait; Off south-western reef. Depth: 18 fms., in a sponge. Oct. 13, 1913. Carnegie Exp. 1913. H. L. Clark coll.

Etymology: from the Ancient Greek words for "hard to determine"
