• Typus: Holst 8725 (1891–1893; syntypus: B, destroyed; lectotypus: K-K000412280).
  • Note: the syntype Volkens 1119 was re-determined and published as a new species Psychotria pseudoplatyphylla, and is treated as one of its paratypes by Petit (1964: 90–91).
• Type locality: [Tanzania.] Usagara-Usambara: Maschëua[Mashewa].

Notes

Grumilea platyphylla had been published before Grumilea goetzei K.Schum. (1900), but this priority for basionym was affected by the blocking name Psychotria platyphylla DC., Prodr. 4: 517 (1830) [= Palicourea berteroana (DC.) Borhidi].
