Name

[edit]

Acer rubescens Hayata, J. Coll. Sci. Imp. Univ. Tokyo 30(1): 66 (1911).

  • Taxonomic notes:
  1. Flora of Taiwan (2nd Edition), the Flora of China and POWO (2025) treat this under Acer morrisonense Hayata 1911. It is here treated as a distinct species, as the protologue notes a number of morphological differences between the two specimens examined.
  2. A confusion exists about Acer morrisonense Hayata (1911). Acer caudatifolium is different from that named Acer morrisonense by H.L.Li in 1963 and which is actually A. rubescens. However, if the two plants are are conspecific then A. morrisonense must take preference under ICBN, as it was published first.
