Acer mazandaranicum Amini, H.Zare & Assadi, Iran. J. Bot. 14(2): 81. (2008).

• Typus: Iran, Mazandaran, 60-65 km S Sari, Dodangeh, Sangdeh, Ashek forest, Vang-Zanoon, 1570 m. Zare & Amini 10390. (Holotype TARI)

• Taxonomic notes: The species is potentially formed from hybridization and hence might not be distinct from Acer hyrcanum. Investigations continue but until there is further confirmation Acer mazandaranicum is assessed as a distinct species.
