- Syntypes: YPM old Zool. Cat. 1994 (orig. 2, 1 lost in 1880s).
Type locality: Pacific Coast of Panama.
Etymology: xyster (= a scraper), perhaps referring to “entire lower surface covered with fine shagreen”. (From : The ETYFish project)
