Hello, and welcome to Wikispecies! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages you might like to see:

If you have named a taxon, then it is likely that there is (or will be) a Wikispecies page about you, and other pages about your published papers. Please see our advice and guidance for taxon authors.

If you have useful images to contribute to Wikispecies, please upload them at Wikimedia Commons. This is also true for video or audio files containing bird songs, whale vocalization, etc.

Please sign your comments on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your username (if you're logged in) and the date. Please also read the Wikispecies policy What Wikispecies is not. If you need help, ask me on my talk page, or in the Village Pump. Type species of ichneumon genera

[edit]

Hi. The evidence I came across was primarily based on Viereck's 1914 review of the type species of the genera involved. For Heterolabis, it was Viereck that designated the type species as Heterolabis crassula. See here.

For Procinetus, the type species is Lissonota decimator Gravenhorst, indicated here.

Viereck said that the two taxa were synonyms, and this seems to have been adopted.

I found a reference stating that decimator and crassula were synonyms here, so that would indeed make Heterolabis a synonym of Procinetus, as they have the same type species.

I also vaguely recall finding a reference back in January stating that decimator was a synonym of Homotherus varipes, and that makes these genera synonyms of Homotherus. I can't now retrace my steps to locate the reference, but that appears to be the crucial point. It looks like Viereck was correct about the type species of these two genera, and their synonymy, and if so, it comes down to the question of whether Procinetus decimator is a synonym of Homotherus varipes. That I can't track down where I found this claim is troubling, but this seems to be the place where I must have gone wrong, if I went wrong. I don't have time to figure this out presently, but I hope you'll at least give it a shot to determine what the status is. I could have gone astray somewhere, admittedly, since I can't now find confirmation of this synonymy, but please do give it a check if you can. Thanks. Dyanega (talk) 16:49, 18 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
