Welcome to Wikispecies!

Hello, and welcome to Wikispecies! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages you might like to see:

If you have named a taxon, then it is likely that there is (or will be) a Wikispecies page about you, and other pages about your published papers. Please see our advice and guidance for taxon authors.

If you have useful images to contribute to Wikispecies, please upload them at Wikimedia Commons. This is also true for video or audio files containing bird songs, whale vocalization, etc.

Please sign your comments on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your username (if you're logged in) and the date. Please also read the Wikispecies policy What Wikispecies is not. If you need help, ask me on my talk page, or in the Village Pump. Again, welcome!

Author templates[edit]

Hello again! Here's a short hint for how to better add author links. When using the {{A}} template, please always add the complete author page name, followed by the author abbreviation as a "piped link". In other words, please format the author templates like this:

{{a|John Treadwell Nichols|Nichols}}

but not like this:

{{a|Nichols}}

Both will look the same when rendered (Nichols and Nichols, respectively), but the difference is that the "short" version of the template never links to the correct author page. Instead it links to a redirect page (like in the "Nichols" case) or even worse in some cases it links to an author disambiguation page. That makes it hard to tell which author is intended, since all "disambig" pages lists several different authors. As an example see the Xenocypris page recently created by you. If you click the Günther link there you will end up on a disambiguation page, and for a layman it can be hard to find out which Günther named this particular taxon. Since I specialize in ichthyology I more or less take for granted that it's Albert Günther, but please update the link on the Xenocypris page in order to help the not-so fishy guys... ;-) Best regards, Tommy Kronkvist (talk), 12:10, 4 December 2017 (UTC).[reply]

@Tommy Kronkvist: Thanks for telling me! I'm still kinda new to this, so please remind me of any other thing that should be changed. Justinrleung (talk) 17:49, 4 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I will, if necessary. For now, why not check your edits so far and correct any author templates that might have the above mentioned problem? Your edit list is still fairly short so it shouldn't take long – also, it might be a good way to add the correct format to your "muscle memory", so to speak. Lastly: thanks for your very welcome contributions so far, and happy editing! –Tommy Kronkvist (talk), 18:06, 4 December 2017 (UTC).[reply]
