Welcome to Wikispecies![edit]

Hello, and welcome to Wikispecies! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages you might like to see:

If you have named a taxon, then it is likely that there is (or will be) a Wikispecies page about you, and other pages about your published papers. Please see our advice and guidance for taxon authors.

If you have useful images to contribute to Wikispecies, please upload them at the Wikimedia Commons. This is also true for video or audio files containing bird songs, whale vocalization, etc.

Please sign your comments on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~). This will automatically produce your username (if you're logged in) and the date.

A last but important note[edit]

Please also read the Wikispecies policy What Wikispecies is not. It is important to know that Wikispecies is very different from Wikipedia and other Wikimedia sister projects. Here we only deal with the hard facts and data regarding the taxonomy, nomenclature and systematics of taxa within the field of biology. More mainstream information about those taxa are better suited for Wikipedia: in that way the two sites can benefit the most from each other, both focusing exclusively on the things they do best. Hence I have edited out some of the information you added when you created the Echinococcus multilocularis page, your first Wikispecies edit. Instead I added data important from a taxonomical standpoint, such as the name of the author, year of publication, and a reference to help verify that information. If you have information about (or even a link to) the original description of the species, please add it!

Lastly, if you need help, or have suggestions or questions, please do not hesitate to ask me on my talk page, or in the Village Pump. Again, welcome!
