Disputed scope
[edit]The family was originally monogeneric, containing only Rangomarama. After Amorim & Rindal, 2007, Rangomaramidae includes most of the genera of Sciaroidea incertae sedis, but according to Jaschhof, 2011 the family in this sense is polyphyletic and all included genera except Rangomarama should be reclassified as Sciaroidea incertae sedis.
