The taxonomy presented on here is an opinion, as Töpel et al., (2011) presented evidence that segregating Horkelia, Horkeliella and Ivesia renders Potentilla paraphyletic and Argentina is ambiguous. However, local flora still prefer to maintain them separately - see Horkelia, Horkeliella and Ivesia from the Jepson Flora Project (eds.) 2017. Jepson eFlora, [1], accessed on October 16, 2017. A viable alternative would be to subsume all segregates into an expanded Potentilla s.l.. However, WS will follow the local flora for now and maintain a conservative position. There has been some progress in resolving this clade in the last few years, but it is still somewhat of a taxonomic opinion. To partially quote Chen et al. (2020) this tribe could consist of 8 genera "Argentina, Comarella, Duchesnea, Horkelia, Ivesia, Piletophyllum, Potentilla and Tylosperma. Very close relationships exist among Comarella, Horkelia and Ivesia, and between Argentina and Piletophyllum. Neither Ivesia nor Potentilla is a monophyletic genus". The circumscription over is probably good enough for now, although not even remotely perfect! Andyboorman (talk) 17:41, 24 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
See Mosyakin et al., 2020. Taxonomic changes can now be made in order to subsume the Ivesioid clade into Potentilla s.l. , however the authors also provide a justification for those botanists who are prepared to accept paraphyletic taxa. WS will follow consensus.Andyboorman (talk) 14:03, 31 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
