Uncertain identity[edit]

I got the full name "Patricia Maloney Heikes (née Maloney)" and dates 1936–2001 for this author from Evenhuis's Authors of fly names, 3rd edition as well as the regularly updated "Deceased dipterists" lists on two Diptera websites, but I'm not entirely sure if the information is correct or not.

To begin with, this author always published as "Patricia M. Heikes" as far as I can tell, never with the middle name given in full, so where does the middle name (or maiden name) come from? I have found an obituary on legacy.com for Patricia Maloney Heikes who lived from 1936 to 2001, but with no details of her life apart from family, not even any to link her with St. Cloud State University. Meanwhile, PDF files from the 1990s on St. Cloud State University's website give a "Patricia Marie Miller Heikes" studying Art or Biology (?) whose advisor is "Standley E. Lewis". This would suggest that possibly the Diptera websites (and Evenhuis's list of authors) got the identity of "Patricia M. Heikes" wrong and mixed her up with somebody else, unless by some coincidence two "Patricia Heike"s were present at the same university at some point in time and both studying biology in some form?

I'm not really prepared to dig deeper into this for the time being, and I don't like to speculate, so I'm not sure what I can about this for now. Monster Iestyn (talk) 15:43, 16 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Edited above with information from Evenhuis's catalog, for clarity. I have also renamed the article to "Patricia M. Heikes" until we can be sure what the full name of the author actually is. Monster Iestyn (talk) 18:58, 16 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Very late update, but I recently contacted Evenhuis and he agrees that "Patricia Maloney Heikes" and dates 1936–2001 are wrong and that "Patricia Marie Miller Heikes" is the correct full name for this person. Though, she hasn't published with her middle names, so I won't add them for now. Monster Iestyn (talk) 18:38, 3 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
