Distribution[edit]

  • Australia
  • New Caledonia
  • New Zealand [adventive? - see notes below and here]
    • Species (1): P. pygmaeus
      • Rejected record: Winterbourn (1970: 25-26) recorded Paracymus sp. from New Zealand, based on a single specimen of uncertain identity. Hansen (2000: 85) determined this specimen to be Cercyon analis, an introduced terrestrial species unrelated to Paracymus. Macfarlane et al. (2010: 412) list Paracymus n. sp. as an endemic freshwater new species. They do not give any indication of the basis for this record, thereby rendering it unverifiable and irrefutable, and therefore the record is herein considered to be unsafe.
