Classification mess[edit]

This seems awfully mixed up, it seems Stho002 has in the past mistakenly applied some of Günter Bechly's clades from his classification as extinct suborders of Odonata, whereas in fact the classification according to an online version of it is intended to be (much detail has been excluded for simplicity):

  • Odontoptera
    • †Protozygoptera
      • Permagrionoidea
      • †Archizygoptera
    • Panodonata
      • Odonata
        • Zygoptera
        • Epiproctophora
          • †Isophlebioptera
          • Euepiproctophora
            • Epiophlebiidae
            • Anisopteromorpha
              • Trigonoptera
                • Pananisoptera
                  • Neoanisoptera
                    • Anisoptera
                      • Petalurida
                      • Euanisoptera
                        • Exophytica
                        • Aeshnoptera

As you can see from above, Epiproctophora is an extant clade within Odonata basically including all non-Zygopterans (so is equivalent to Epiprocta?), Trigonoptera and Aeshnoptera are extant clades within the Epiproctophora tree (Aeshnoptera is also within Anisoptera), Isophlebioptera is an extinct clade also within Epiproctophora, and Archizygoptera is outside Odonata altogether.

I've already fixed Aeshnoptera's placement but I'm not sure how to deal with the others, especially thanks to the state of Odonata classification currently (where the fossil and living taxa apparently seem to follow different classifications at the moment?? I'm not sure if I've got this right but that's the impression I get). I leave this note here for anyone who cares to check, in any case. Monster Iestyn (talk) 20:52, 20 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I've now synonymized Epiproctophora with Epiprocta, while Archizygoptera I placed under Odontoptera and Isophlebioptera and Trigonoptera under Epiprocta (= Epiproctophora). These seem like dirty fixes mostly if I'm being honest, but it's a start at least. Monster Iestyn (talk) 01:54, 21 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
