McDill, & Simpson (2011) showed that this genus along with Philbornea could be incorporated into an expanded Hugonia (including Durandea). In recognition of this Christenhusz et al. (2018) created Hugonia griffithiana to accommodate transfer of the type species, with reference to the basionym, but without analysis or comment. However, they neglected to create a combination for I. contestiana, which would would leave this genus without a type. Another complication is that with all these transfers Hugonia s.l. is still paraphyletic. However, this explains circumscriptions Govaerts et al. (2020) cf. Hassler et al. (2020).
