Bridges, 1988 and Savela (Funet) both keep H. e. georgius as a valid subspecies of H.erylus. However, Vane-Wright & de Jong, 2003, include the Sula Is. in the distribution of ssp. gamatius and make no mention of ssp. georgius. This amounts effectively to a synonymisation of the two sspp, and gamatius has page priority from the original description. Hence I treat georgius here as a synonym of gamatius. Takanami, 1992:44 suggests that the type of georgius should be found in the Staudinger collection. He also notes that the Type ♀ is from the Sula islands and that Fruhstorfer based the name on the description of Staudinger, 1889: 103. In view of the paucity of subsequent information, I think this is best kept as a synonym of gamatius. Accassidy 00:40, 17 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
