his surname? Enwiki and dewiki uses DEFAULTSORT {{DEFAULTSORT:Shaw, Herbert Kenneth Airy}}--Estopedist1 (talk) 06:33, 25 October 2020 (UTC)
- Airy is the surname of his mother Agnes Margaret Airy, and Shaw is the surname of his father Herbert Alfred Shaw. In this list, he is referred to as "AIRY SHAW, Herbert Kenneth". See also these obituaries: [1], [2]. Korg (talk) 10:01, 27 October 2020 (UTC)
- @Korg: for double surnames (like for Spanish, Portuguese ones) we should universally used hyphen style, ie: Airy-Shaw, Rodriguez-Ibeira etc. So, we never have problems with DEFAULTSORT and reference templates--Estopedist1 (talk) 05:34, 28 October 2020 (UTC)
- @Estopedist1: Double surnames are not always written with a hyphen (see en:Double-barrelled name). I think we should primarily follow the spelling used in published materials. What are the problems with DEFAULTSORT and reference templates? Korg (talk) 09:17, 28 October 2020 (UTC)
