What does it mean?[edit]

This taxon – like most other taxa – is not named after a land mark, and has nothing to do with excavating or the process of digging. The page regards Excavata, the name of a (not seldom parasitic and/or amœboid) supergroup of unicellular organisms. They were formerly considered to be included in the Protista kingdom, however since some years back that kingdom is considered obsolete and these days most taxonomists instead regards Excavata as belonging to the domain Eukaryota. It is however important to note that the biological nomenclature of these organisms is still being discussed, which is also why the page mentions several alternative classifications. –Tommy Kronkvist (talk), 16:54, 9 October 2018 (UTC).[reply]
