The possibility that thaenia is actually a Philippine subspecies incorrectly recorded from Borneo is discussed by Cowan, 1974: 338. Notably, Seki does not include this subspecies in Butterflies of Borneo, while Treadaway lists 'thaenia as occurring in Jolo and another, as yet un-named subspecies from Luzon.
