Taxon ranks[edit]

Most recent sources in the last decade (e.g. Bouchard et al. 2011; Handbook of zoology Volume IV Part 38 from 2014; Danilevsky's 2020 revised edition of part of Catalogue of Palaearctic Coleoptera volume 6) actually treat this taxon as a family "Disteniidae", though for some unexplained reason the subtaxa are consistently kept as tribe rank regardless, skipping the "subfamily" rank altogether (though Danilevsky seems to refer to Disteniinae only to contain the tribes, without indicating that other subfamilies even exist in the family). As far as I know, the only publication or website that doesn't do that is the English Wikipedia.

Not sure what should be done about this problem exactly; re-rank Disteniinae as family but keep the tribe ranks for the subtaxa? Or re-rank them as subfamilies? (Which seems wrong to do if nobody actually refers to them as subfamilies) Monster Iestyn (talk) 18:49, 25 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
