Valid name for species[edit]

Having only just learned of the existence of {{Opinion 1270}} and Silfverberg (1979), it appears as if the valid name for this species *cannot* be Colaspis flavicornis (Fabricius, 1787), as its original combination (Chrysomela flavicornis Fabricius, 1787) has been suppressed by the ICZN. It would appear that the junior synonym Colaspis prasina Lefèvre, 1878 would have to be the valid name instead. However, the most recent publication mentioning the species was {{Flowers, 1996}}, who used "Colaspis flavicornis Fabricius, 1801", seemingly unaware of the Opinion's publication (nor of the fact he was using the wrong taxon authority). In turn it appears none of the people involved in the opinion (including the original proposer of the case, Silfverberg) were aware that Blake (1976) had re-established Colaspis flavicornis (Fabricius, 1787) as a valid species (instead of continuing to be in synonymy with Colaspis occidentalis (Linnaeus, 1758)). Blake herself could not have intervened as she had already died in 1978, the year before Silfverberg's original proposal was published in BZN volume 36.

It is unfortunate how the above turned out, but the result is maybe this page title should be moved to Colaspis prasina in the future, if not right now. (Honestly I'm not happy with this myself and I'm not keen to publish what is essentially original research) Monster Iestyn (talk) 00:50, 29 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
