The Taxon Name[edit]
There are three names for this taxon.
- Backebergia militaris (Audot) Bravo ex Sánchez-Mej. in Cact. Succ. J. (Los Angeles) 45: 174. (1973) is accepted by Korotkova et al. (2023) in CACO, based upon its acceptance as a monotypic taxon.
- Govaerts et al. (2023 accept the monotypic taxon, but prefer Mitrocereus militaris (Audot) Bravo in Bot. Stud. 12: 54. (1961) based upon priority under ICN Art 11].
- Pachycereus militaris (Audot) P.V.Heath in Calyx 2(3): 108. (1992) is used by authorities who do not accept the the taxon's monotypic nature and prefer the taxon to be subsumed this is followed by Hassler (2023.
