Talk:Asparagaceae
Add topicAsparagaceae s.l. "is a highly unsatisfactory family. Nothing characterises it, and while some of the subfamilies have several distinctive apomorphies and are also easy to recognise, others are difficult to recognise." (Stevens, 2015). While there are no obvious apomorphies, the seven subfamilies seem to be a rather well supported clade in Fay et al. (2000) and Pires et al. (2006) see also Chase et al., (2009). However, evidence is emerging that changes may be required, for example Nolinoideae (Ruscaceae s.l.) (Kim et al., 2010). Meanwhile, its use by APGIII has given it wide acceptance (Govaerts et al., 2014 and Stevens, 2015), hence the circumscription here (perhaps until APGIV).
