Deprecated[edit]

Aspalatia is deprecated per https://www.marinespecies.org/aphia.php?p=taxdetails&id=369369. I am new to WikiSpecies, so it would be appreciated if anyone could help fix this. Thank you! 2003 LN6 (talk) 19:39, 22 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This is not easy to resolve. WoRMS cites this genus as deprecated. This database collects all info about algae directly from AlgaeBase. AlgaeBase states "This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Bangia." But three species, including the type species, are taxonomically accepted by AlgaeBase [1] and not synonymized with Bangia. Because of this ambigous information, I have just added a note on the taxon page. --Thiotrix (talk) 16:50, 25 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Most recent treatment appears to be here: Sutherland, J.E., Lindstrom, S.C., Nelson, W.A., Brodie, J., Lynch, M.D., Hwang, M.S., Choi, H.G., Miyata, M., Kikuchi, N., Oliveira, M.C. and Farr, T., 2011. "Aspalatia Erceg. (1927: 82) was originally assigned to the Cyanophyceae, but was considered by Frémy (1934) to represent a developmental stage of Bangia. The three described species of Aspalatia remain poorly documented: Aspalatia crassior Erceg. (type of genus), Aspalatia andalousica P. González, and Aspalatia tenuior Erceg."
Personally if there is an option somewhere, I would give the status of this genus as "uncertain", and refer to this statement... Tony 1212 (talk) 17:24, 25 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
